A Paint Shop Head directs overall painting operations, processes, and personnel. Their core responsibilities include maximizing robotic or manual production efficiency, ensuring consistent paint quality and finish, optimizing material consumption, and enforcing strict safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production & Operation Management
- Oversee all paint shop processes including surface preparation, primer, base coat, and topcoat applications.
- Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly production targets are met without compromising line capacity.
- Monitor Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), managing robotic automation and conveyor systems.
2. Quality Assurance
- Implement strict quality checks to prevent and troubleshoot common paint defects like dust, orange peel, sagging, or dry spray.
- Establish root-cause analysis procedures (5-Why, Fishbone) for defect reduction and minimize rework.
- Ensure compliance with automotive or industry standards for corrosion resistance and gloss.
3. Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)
- Enforce rigorous hazardous material handling and chemical safety guidelines.
- Ensure proper disposal of chemical waste and operation of ventilation and exhaust systems.
- Maintain 5S standards on the shop floor and lead safety audits
4. Cost Optimization
- Forecast budgets and manage operational costs related to manpower, power, and paint consumables.
- Drive continuous improvement projects (Lean, Kaizen, Six Sigma) to reduce material waste and energy usage.
5. Team Leadership
- Manage, train, and evaluate a team of shift engineers, technicians, and paint line operators.
- Facilitate skill-building and maintain discipline across all working shifts.
